The way that Infrared heating panels work is vastly different to the method employed by the convector heaters we’ve used in our homes for such a long time.

Traditional convection radiators heat the air around them, thereby creating convection currents of air which rise when warm and fall when they’re cooling. How Many IR Panels Will I Need?

Calculating the number of IR heating panels you’ll require for your room is really quite easy when you know how it’s done. All you have to do is measure the length, width and height of your room in metres, then multiply the 3 numbers together to obtain its volume in m° (cubic metres).

The total wattage you’ll require is dependent upon the level of insulation, so a well insulated room will require 20W per cubic metre, rooms in homes with medium insulation need 25W per cubic metre, and those that are poorly insulated will demand 30W per cubic metre.

Multiplying the relevant figure with the volume of your room gives you the total wattage, and this will give you a rough idea of the number of panels you’ll require to provide sufficient heat.
